What are Essential Oils?!

Essential oils come from different types and parts of plant life.  They have been sought after for centuries due to their healthy and therapeutic abilities to incorporate wellness into their families daily lives.  Learn more about the science of it, from the Director of Global Education and Health Sciences for Young Living Essential Oils, Dr. Lindsey Elmore.

There are  several ways to use essential oils, from the popular aromatherapy to topical application, cooking and more!  A natural, non-toxic way to incorporate wellness in your home and in your outside life including, office and field to help support wellness, beauty and all around life balance.

Essential oils are not created equally.  The process of extracting essential goodness is very ritual and precise.  I know that I want to make sure that mine are pure and therapeutic, not made with synthetic chemicals.  I also understand that there can be misconceptions about what's on the label for most over the counter EO's, due to lack of regulations.

It is important to know the source of where your products come from and how to safetly use them for their fullest potential.  Pure and true EO's can be safe to use on your children and pets.

*Being a part of the Young Living community allows it's members to understand and witness their careful processes and appreciate their desire to stay 100% pure, organic, and chemical-free.

QUICK TIPS

for using essential oils safely

Although most, pure essential oils are safe for general use, the potency of some oils can cause irritation and should not be used in specific situations.  Always check the product label for appropriate usage.  Some may be okay for ingestion.

KNOW HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH

  • In most cases, with pure EO's, only one or two drops is sufficient enough to be effective.

DON'T FLUSH WITH WATER!

  • Do not flush with water, but do drink plenty of it!

  • Use a carrier oil, such as V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex, coconut or olive oil for any skin sensitivities.

  • If you get it in your eyes, close them and briefly wait it out or open & fan air to toward them.

  • Keep out of ears & away from mucous membranes.

AROMATHERAPY

  • Aromatherapy is a way to diffuse the fragrance of an EO into the air, for inhalation.  It takes approx. 20 seconds for EO's to affect brain cells.

  • Use in an aromatic diffuser, add to a pot of boiling water with towel over head to inhale vapors, put on cotton ball or clothes pin and attach to vent, add to glass spray bottle with distilled water or alcohol...

TOPICAL APPLICATION

  • It is safe to apply many EO's to the skin, however some EO's may require mixing with a carrier oil to lessen the power of some of the more potent oils.

  • It about 2 minutes for an EO to reach the blood stream with this method.

  • If you have sensative skin; test a small amount of the inside of the arm for 30 minutes, for example.

  • Apply directly to area, using directions or use the VitaFlex method, Raindrop effect / Massage, add to bath water, combine with your beauty regimen, incorporate into acupuncture....

INGESTION

  • Some EO's may be safe for consumption.

  • Add to a glass / stainless steel cup of water, add to capsule (w/carrier oil, if necessary), drop under tongue, add to meals (even gives you extra flavor, with better benefits than using dried herbs!).....

CARRIER OIL

  • The use of a carrier oil, such as V6 or coconut oils, when using specific essential oils, does not dilute the effectiveness of the EO, but ensures that a "hot" oil does not irritate or overpower when used topically or taken internally.
